SLA appropriating Tamil IDPs' properties in Ampaa’rai district

The appropriation of the properties of the Internally
Displaced People (IDP) and a Non-government organization in the
Tamil areas in Ampaa’rai district by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and
Special Task Force (STF) Friday is a premeditated government
plan to prevent the displaced from resettling in their
traditional villages, K. Pathmananthan, the Tamil National
Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian for Thikaamaduva in Ampaa’rai
district, said.

(UPR) session at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, the stark history of
gross rights violations by Sri Lanka Security forces, the unfolding ground
situation including the exit of International Independent Group of Eminent
Persons (IIGEP) from rights monitoring from the island, and intense lobbying by
several Rights organization including three Peace Nobel laureates, have led to
the ignominous defeat of Sri Lanka Wednesday in securing the sought after
coveted spot in the Human Rights Council of the UN.

Malaysia: People's verdict and Government's defiance

Malaysian
government’s refusal to free M.Manoharan, who was elected to
Selangor State Assembly in the last elections but still kept in
custody under the Internal Security Act, is condemned by the
opposition Democratic Action Party (DAP), reported AFP on
Sunday. "It shows that Prime Minister Abdulla Ahmed Badawi's
administration has not really heard the voice of the people in
the March 8 political tsunami to change towards a more
democratic and accountable Malaysian society. The ISA detentions
are used as political instruments to suppress dissent. It has no
relationship whatsoever with national security," said DAP leader
Lim Kit Siang to AFP.
